IMPD releases identities of two people killed in west side home

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-- Police say two people were found dead inside a home on Indianapolis' west side, in the 3500 block of Soaring Eagle Court. Violence later broke out Thursday night in response to the crime.

Police were called to the home around 4 p.m. after neighbors reported seeing a body inside.

Once investigators got on scene, they discovered the bodies of a man and a woman. They were later identified as Victoria Valdez, 39, and Vincent Grant, 31.

"They were able to see through the window of the residence that there were two people down. The door of the residence was ajar," said Jim Gillespie, with IMPD.

A 17-year-old, a friend of the female victim's two children, first spotted the suspicious circumstances and yelled to another neighbor for help.

"Our neighbor had gone down there to see if her son was home, and he came back down saying he thought somebody was dead in the floor because the door was cracked open," said Zonie Christopher.

Police are investigating the deaths as a double homicide, not a murder-suicide. Investigators also said it didn't appear domestic. The victims died from gunshot wounds.

As afternoon turned to evening the scene got more tense, with numerous fights breaking out just after 7 p.m.

Officers moved the crime scene back to keep the peace.

Police have not released information regarding a suspect or motive. However, Thursday night police said they did have a person of interest. It's unclear if they're still questioning that person.
