More weekend road work to slow central Indiana drivers
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — While summer may officially be over, road construction is not, and this weekend central Indiana drivers will get another full plate of slowdowns and work zones around the city.
Some of the work started Thursday night, but most will start after the Friday night rush hour and last till 6 a.m. Monday morning.
INDOT is suggesting drivers pack some patience should they come upon any work zone but are also suggesting alternate routes to completely avoid the expected slowdowns.
Here are the areas of central Indiana that will be affected this weekend:
I-465 at I-70 east side
Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, HIS Constructors plans to close:
- the southbound I-465 (Exit 44) ramp to eastbound I-70,
- the right shoulder on the northbound I-465 ramp to westbound I-70,
- one left lane on the eastbound I-70 (Exit 89) ramp to northbound I-465,
- two left lanes of northbound I-465 between 21st Street and I-70,
- three left lanes of northbound I-465 between I-70 and 30th Street.
Northbound I-465 will be reduced to one open lane at the east side I-70 interchange as crews apply bridge deck overlays this weekend. The closures are expected to end before 6 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26.
The shoulders are closed and one lane remains open on the westbound I-70 ramp to southbound I-465.
I-465 southeast side
Starting at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22 until 6 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, eastbound/northbound I-465 will be reduced to one open lane. Milestone Contractors plans to close:
- the right two lanes of eastbound/northbound I-465 between Emerson Avenue (Exit 52) and U.S. 52/Brookville Road (Exit 47),
- the Emerson Avenue entrance ramp to eastbound I-465,
- the northbound I-465 (Exit 47) ramp to U.S. 52/Brookville Road.
Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 the same lanes and ramps will close again. Eastbound/northbound I-465 will be reduced to one open lane for concrete patching that will last through the weekend until 6 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26.
I-465 southwest side
Rieth-Riley Construction has recurring lane closures for paving on I-465 between I-70 (Exit 9) and Harding Street (Exit 4) each night between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Traffic lanes are shifted through the work zone so at least two lanes remain open.
I-70 at Harding Street
Westbound I-70 will be reduced to one lane from 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 until 5 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26 to apply a bridge deck overlay on the I-70 bridge over Harding Street.
Starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, Halverson Construction plans to close the left lane of westbound I-70 approaching Harding Street (Exit 78).
Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, the westbound I-70 (Exit 78) ramp to Harding Street and the center lane of westbound I-70 will also be closed, which will restrict westbound I-70 to one open lane through the weekend until 5 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26.
I-65 & I-70 north split
Calumet Civil Contractors has recurring lane closures for paving on I-65 and I-70 at the north split each night between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Various overnight lane closures can be expected in both directions and on the ramps between I-65 and I-70. At least one lane will remain open.
