Court docs: Purdue football player arrested for battery after punching roommate, breaking his jaw
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A Purdue football player was arrested Wednesday morning after he allegedly punched his roommate in the face.
Sophomore offensive lineman Martesse Patterson, 21, of Columbus, Ohio, was charged with battery resulting in serious bodily injury for an alleged incident that occurred on September 7.
According to court documents, Patterson asked his roommate if he could borrow something, and his roommate said no. But Patterson took the item anyway.
The roommate approached Patterson and asked for the item back, and Patterson allegedly punched him in the face.
Patterson broke the victim’s jaw, and he required surgery and a two-day hospital stay in Indianapolis.
According to medical records, the victim suffered a displaced fracture of the left mandible and a non-displaced fracture of the right mandible.
A no contact order was issued, and bail is set at $10,000 surety or $1,000 cash.
Patterson started for Purdue in the team’s first two games, but he did not play last week.
