Another round of road work to greet drivers for first weekend in October


INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Another round of weekend interstate work is set begin for the first weekend in October.

Drivers should expect significant delays for most of the work which will start Thursday in the overnight hours and continue Friday overnight through Sunday.

The areas of interstates that will be affected are:

I-465 southeast side

Starting at 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 29 until 6 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, southbound/westbound I-465 will be reduced to one open lane.  Milestone Contractors plans to close:

  • the right two lanes of southbound/westbound I-465 between U.S. 40/Washington Street (Exit 45) and I-65 (Exit 53)
  • the entrance ramp from Southeastern Avenue/Old U.S. 421 to southbound I-465

Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 the same two lanes will close again and southbound/westbound I-465 will be reduced to one open lane for concrete patching that will last through the weekend until 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 3.  In addition, the following ramps will be closed:

  • the entrance ramp from Southeastern Avenue/Old U.S. 421 to southbound I-465
  • the southbound I-465 Exit 47 to U.S. 52/Brookville Road
  • the westbound I-465 Exit 53 to northbound I-65

I-465 southwest side

Rieth-Riley Construction has recurring lane closures for paving on I-465 between I-70 (Exit 9) and Harding Street (Exit 4) each night between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.  Traffic lanes are shifted through the work zone so at least two lanes remain open.

Eastbound I-465 will be reduced to one lane on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 5 p.m. to midnight as the temporarily shifted traffic lanes through the work zone are returned to original configuration.

I-65 & I-70 north split

Calumet Civil Contractors has recurring lane closures for paving on I-65 and I-70 at the north split each night between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.  Various overnight lane closures can be expected in both directions and on the ramps between I-65 and I-70.  At least one lane will remain open.

I-465 at I-70 east side

The shoulders are closed and one lane remains open on the westbound I-70 ramp to southbound I-465.  One lane will continue to be open on the ramp.
