FISHERS, Ind.– Construction of a new IKEA store in Fishers is set to begin soon.

The Swedish retailer announced the groundbreaking on the state’s first store will take place on October 18 at 10:30 a.m. The store is scheduled to open sometime in the fall of 2017.

Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness will join local officials and IKEA representatives for the groundbreaking.

The planned 289,000 square foot building will be built on 35 acres along the eastern side of Interstate 69, just south of the East 116th Street exit. The store will employ 250 people.

IKEA says the store will also feature three model home interiors, 50 room settings, a supervised children’s play area and a 325-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties like meatballs with lingonberries or salmon plates, along with American food.
