Reward being offered for information on suspect in attempted armed robbery in Marion

MARION, Ind. – Police are searching for two suspects in connection with an attempted armed robbery.

The incident occurred on September 26 just after 6 a.m. Police say the suspects attempted to rob a resident as he approached his home.

The first suspect was wearing black sweatpants and a black Jordan sweatshirt with the hood tied around his face. He was carrying a shotgun.

The second suspect was wearing black pants, a gray t-shirt and a black mask on his face. He was carrying a pistol.

The victim did not want to speak publicly about the robbery attempt but said that God was watching out for him that morning. Out of five shots fired at him, he said he was only hit once, in the arm. He was taken to the hospital and released. The victim said he hasn't spent much time at home, staying in a hotel for his safety.

The man walked up to his home in the 700 block of West 7th Street, milk and groceries in hand. Within seconds, he was ambushed by the two men.

Surveillance cameras mounted on the porch of the home catch it all. The struggle moves out of frame, and investigators said it lasted about a minute. The victim told investigators he didn't know who the armed men are.

Those along the street heard the commotion.

"There were police cars out there for a long time with their lights on," said Ken Heid.

Heid is remodeling a house to rent nearby. He said there have been other incidents on the street, leaving him to wonder if the neighborhood is safe.

"That's the tricky part. That's what I'm hoping is somebody good to rent it but with gunfire like that it may be a little more problematic," he said.

Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that results in the arrest or indictment of the suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call 765-662-8477. Callers can remain anonymous.
