Police seize $70,000 in counterfeit clothing during traffic stop

MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. – Police confiscated thousands of dollars in counterfeit items after a traffic stop in Morgan County Monday afternoon.

According to Indiana State Police, a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement trooper stopped a gold Toyota Sienna minivan for following too closely on eastbound I-70 near the 52 mile marker around 12:45 p.m. Monday.

While talking to the driver, the trooper noticed something suspicious. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of about 1,400 counterfeit items believed to be on their way to fall festivals in Indiana and Ohio.

The items included gloves, hats and jackets. The clothing, manufactured in China, displayed the logos of the North Face and UGG brands. Police estimated the items had a street value of $70,000.

The trooper arrested Jian Ye, 39, Flushing, N.Y., on a charge of counterfeiting. He was taken to the Morgan County Jail.

Police were in the process of contacting North Face and UGG to let them know about the counterfeit items and arrest.
