LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. – An Indiana man was arrested after he allegedly overdosed on heroin in his truck with his 1-year-old daughter, The Times of Northwest Indiana reports.

Jesse Hampton, 30, of LaCrosse, Indiana, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with neglect of a dependent, maintaining a common nuisance, public intoxication and possession of a narcotic drug.

Valparaiso police were called to a Murphy USA gas station on U.S. 30 by a customer who saw Hampton unresponsive in his truck at the gas pumps.

Police were unable to wake him, and medics were called to the scene.

Officers removed his daughter from the truck and gave him a single dose of naloxone, but it had little effect, police told The Times.

Hampton was transported to Porter Regional Hospital and given another dose of naloxone, and it revived him, police say.

His daughter was released to her mother at the gas station, and Hampton was taken to the Porter County Jail once he was medically cleared.
