INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For anyone in need of a new pet, the Indy Mega-Adoption this weekend could add another family member.

Close to 1,000 dogs and cats from nearly 30 area shelters and rescues are up for adoption.

The adoptable animals are a range of ages, sizes and breeds, and are fixed, vaccinated and micro-chipped already.

The adoption fee is $30, which is less than half of what some shelters normally charge.

Pets go home with their new owners the same day.

This is the largest two-day event of its kind in Indiana. At the June event, about 800 pets found new homes.

This makes room at local animal shelters and curbs euthanasia because of a lack of space.
