INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Virginia Avenue shortcut across Calvary Street to northbound I-65/eastbound I-70 will close on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 10 a.m.  Direct access to the interstate from Calvary Street will remain open.

Northwest-bound drivers on Virginia Street seeking access to the interstate will no longer be able to take the shortcut across Calvary Street.  Instead, traffic will continue about 100 yards on Virginia Street, turn right onto Calvary Street, and then turn left onto the interstate entrance ramp.

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is coordinating the closure with the city of Indianapolis in consideration of concerns about visibility and safety from local motorists, residents and businesses.

INDOT and local officials will continue to monitor traffic patterns nearby as coordination continues about the long-term future of the area.
