DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. – Six bystanders in Auburn, Indiana help an officer make an arrest after the suspect tried to fight him and kicked him in the head, WANE reports.
Last Friday, Auburn Officer Steve Vallance responded to a call of a man running through traffic on State Road 8.
Vallance caught up with the suspect later identified as Allen Wilcox, 18, and just as he was about to handcuff Wilcox, the teen took him to the ground and kicked him in the head.
“As I was attempting to place the other handcuff on to him that’s when he decided that it was time to fight and the next thing I know we’re down in a ditch rolling around,” Vallance told WANE.
Several people passing by saw the struggle and jumped in to help.
In total, six people stopped to help Vallance arrest Wilcox.
“Instead of pulling their cell phones out and videotaping police encounters like you see on the news all the time these days they decided that this wasn’t going to happen in their town and they were going to help,” Vallance told WANE.
Wilcox faces preliminary charges of resisting a law enforcement officer and battery on an officer.
