UPDATE: Police name victim in fatal gas station shooting

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A deadly week and a half in Indianapolis continues with the eleventh fatal shooting in just nine days. IMPD identified the victim as 23-year-old Sy-Ayre Kyles of Indianapolis.

IMPD was dispatched to the Speedway at North High School Road and Rockville Road on reports of a person shot.

When they arrived at the gas station they found Kyles inside of a parked car. Investigators say there were bullet holes in the black sedan’s windows.

“There is a camera very close to where the incident occurred,” said Deputy Chief  of Patrol Valerie Cunningham, with Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. “We have located shell casings here on the lot. So we do hope that as they continue to process the scene, that we’ll have hopefully good video of that and some good statements, because we do have multiple cooperating witnesses here.”

A clerk inside the store raised the silent “hold up” alarm, dispatching police to the scene. They arrived within minutes and noticed the car parked right out front of the gas station’s convenience store.

Kyles had been shot and was unresponsive.

One witness told police she saw the shooting and returned to the scene to speak with detectives.

Investigators were able to gather a vague suspect description of a dark colored sedan seen leaving the Speedway after the shooting and heading west on Rockville Road.
