SOMERS, New York — Country singer Blake Shelton is coming through in a big way to help a fan injured in a motorcycle crash.
On Nov. 7, 25-year-old Jonathan Daniels wrote a Facebook post about a motorcycle crash that forced him and his girlfriend to miss his Oct. 8 concert in New York.
Daniels said a car pulled out in front of him while he was riding with several friends. He bounced off the car into a utility pole, leaving him with collapsed lungs, broken bones and a lacerated kidney, liver and spleen. He also suffered a head injury during the September crash.
He and his girlfriend had bought tickets for Shelton’s concert, but they couldn’t go because Daniels’ injuries were so severe. He spent 15 days in the hospital and recovered even though his prognosis looked bleak.
Throughout the whole ordeal, Daniels’ girlfriend, Lindsay Baker, didn’t leave his side. Now Daniels wants to give something back to her—tickets to another Blake Shelton concert.
“My girlfriend never left my side and kept praying for me and made my stay in the hospital very comforting. Now, because of this horrible accident, we were unable to make the trip to Brooklyn,” Daniels wrote on Facebook. “It is now a couple months later and she still has to help me shower, eat, walk, drive me around to my doctor’s appointments and I was just hoping maybe you would see this letter and help me give her the birthday present she deserves. All she wants is to see you in concert.”
Daniels’ original post has more than 419,000 shares, 195,000 reactions and 64,000 comments. On Dec. 8, he heard back from Shelton. Daniels posted a video response from the country music star.
“I’m very sorry about the accident and I hope you recover soon and you’re feeling better soon,” Shelton said in the video. “Obviously I’m totally ready to give you tickets to whatever show you can make it to, and don’t rush, for God sakes, take your time getting well and getting ready.”
Shelton said the tickets will be waiting for them when they’re ready to go. He had a request of his own.
“For sure, I’ve got to meet you guys. Happy holidays and we’re pulling for you to get well.”
