INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – No one was hurt after an IMPD officer fired a shot at a suspect on the north side Monday afternoon.

Officers were called to scene in the 3300 block of N. Meridian Street around 12: 30 p.m. in reference to a disturbance between a man and woman. The male, later identified as 24-year-old Leandre Walker-Kayzer, was allegedly armed with a firearm.

When officers arrived to the apartment, they were unable to get a response at the door. With no signs of criminal activity or calls of distress, the officers left the scene.

Officers returned to the scene after receiving another call just after 1 p.m. Responding officers met with the complainant at the entryway of the building and were told Walker-Kayzer was on the second floor, with a firearm.

Officers went up to the second floor, where they found Walker-Kayzer with something in his hands. Officers confronted him, at which time he reportedly turned towards them and got into a shooting stance.

One of the responding officers then discharged his firearm, which went through the suspect’s shirt, but did not strike his body.

Walker-Kayzer was taken into custody. Police say he had an active warrant for traffic violations.

The involved officer, who is a 15-year veteran of IMPD, will be placed on administrative leave to ensure he receives coping services.

IMPD continues to investigate. The department asks that anyone with information about this incident to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317)262-TIPS (8477).
