AVON, Ind. – Every girl’s dream wedding usually includes her mom, but when one bride-to-be’s mother became too sick to attend, the couple brought the wedding to her.

Cheryl Owens is battling Stage 4 kidney cancer at IU Health West Hospital in Avon; the cancer has moved into her lungs.

Her daughter Kristin and Kristin’s fiancé Brian originally planned to get married on February 4, but they wanted Cheryl to be at their wedding. As her condition worsened, they decided it would be best to have the wedding as soon as possible.

Kristin dropped her wedding dress off at David’s Bridal for alterations on Sunday, and it was ready on Tuesday. They called IU Health West about the wedding, and the staff had everything ready in just a few hours.

They had the wedding Tuesday evening  on the third floor ICU inside Cheryl’s room. One nurse even sang “Amazing Grace.”

“She is a special lady and has been waiting for this day since I was 5,” Kristin told FOX59.

The new bride says she wants everyone to know that her mom is absolutely awesome, and her birthday is this Saturday. She says they appreciate all prayers.
