Police on the scene where the body was found.

DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind.– Police say a body was found Tuesday in a Delaware County field.

The body of 39-year-old Jeffrey Brown was found in a field along Inlow Springs Road by a man doing work on his property.

Police are investigating the case as a homicide. The coroner said it appears the victim had been shot several times in the back of the head. A witness said a car was seen fleeing the area after gunshots were heard.

The man who owns the property where Brown’s body was found called police. The man reported finding the body after he was working to fix part of a chain gate that was broken off during the night. Neighbors called the property-owner after hearing gunshots.

Another neighbor said he’s shocked to learn this happened right across from his home.

“Why here? I’m thinking there’s a lot more remote areas that somebody needed to do their dirty work, it’s crazy they thought this would be a good spot,” one neighbor said.

This is the third homicide in the county this month. On February 9, Zachary Farmer, 20, was found outside a home shot to death in Muncie. Police are also still investigating the death of 39-year-old Joseph Johnson who was found with multiple gunshot wounds on February 5.
