80-year-old Lebanon man dies from injuries sustained during alleged assault by son

LEBABON, Ind. – A Lebanon man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting his 80-year-old father, who died from his injuries over the weekend.

On the evening of March 13, officers found James Buchanan Sr. unresponsive in his home in the 200 block of Terrace Lane.

Officers provided medical aid to Buchanan Sr. until they were able to transport him to Witham Hospital. He was later transported to an Indianapolis area hospital, where he died on March 18.

The man’s son, James Buchanan Jr. was taken into custody at the crime scene and transported to the Lebanon Police Department to be interviewed by detectives.

Buchanan Jr. was later incarcerated in the Boone County Jail on a $1 million bond and charged with aggravated battery, a level 3 felony, and strangulation, a level 6 felony.

Officers continue to investigate this case and will present their findings to the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office, who will determine if additional charges will be filed against Buchanan Jr.
