Police: Woman’s caretaker sexually assaulted by masked, armed man in rural Zionsville

BOONE COUNTY, Ind.– Authorities in Boone County say a woman’s caretaker was sexually assaulted by a masked man Friday night in rural Zionsville.

Police say around 5 p.m., 76-year-old Helen Irene Fix and her caretaker left the residence for their daily walk around the property. Once they arrived near the barn, they were approached by an armed, unknown male who was wearing a ski mask and gloves.

The caretaker was assaulted outside the barn and ended up inside. The suspect then sexually assaulted the caretaker, who is not being identified.

Another caretaker showed up around 6 p.m. and found the victims. She called 911 to report what she thought were two dead bodies. The two women did survive.

When officials arrived, they found the victim naked on the barn floor. Fix was found sitting in a chair and uninjured. Police say her medical condition prevents her from communicating details of the crime to them.

Police say the caretaker who was assaulted suffered injuries from a rope that was placed around her neck and a hit on the head. She was released from the hospital Saturday evening.

Investigators don’t believe this incident is a random act of violence. Items left at the crime scene are being processed.

Fix’s property falls in a very rural part of Zionsville, in the 1500 block of US 421 South.

Authorities have been called to the property eight separate times since 2014. Most recently, police were called out twice on March 6, 2017 for reports of intimidation and domestic standby.
