Guerin Catholic bus involved in head-on collision in Madison County
MADISON COUNTY, Ind. – Injuries were reported after crash involving a school bus in Madison County Tuesday morning.
According to Madison County Emergency Management, the crash happened around 6:45 a.m. at State Road 32 and South 675 West.
According to Madison County Sheriff Scott Mellinger, the minibus from Guerin Catholic out of Hamilton County was headed westbound when it collided head-on with an eastbound car. A witness said the car had tried to get past traffic in a no-passing zone at a curve.
Three students were on the bus at the time of the crash, officials said. All were checked at the scene and released to their parents. The bus driver was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.
The teenage driver of the second vehicle, 17-year-old Cameron Wiles, needed to be extricated. His injuries didn’t appear to be life-threatening. A family member told officers that Wiles had been sent home from work because he felt ill earlier in the morning.
