INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- A woman is dead after what police are calling a domestic dispute.
Indianapolis Metropolitan police investigators were called to the 1100 block of W. 35th St., on a disturbance investigation around 12:30 a.m. They arrived to find a woman in cardiac arrest. She was transported in critical condition to IU Health Methodist Hospital where she later died.
Police said the victim is a 34-year-old woman named Tasha Allen.
According to the Coroner's Office, Allen was strangled to death.
Police said the suspect is the victim's 42-year-old boyfriend, identified as Tarik Fields. Police arrested him on a preliminary murder charge.
This is the second deadly domestic incident in just a few days. On Wednesday, a 21-year-old woman was fatally shot on Senate Avenue after a fight with a man inside a car.
"It is unusual to see female victims of gun violence," Major Richard Riddle with IMPD said of the recent violence. "Unfortunately, many of the female victims we do see are in domestic violence relationships that turn deadly."
The case remains under investigation.
