Purchasing a home is an exciting and stressful experience. The real estate advisor you work with during the process matters as much as the new home you will soon call your own. So, what should you find out about your agent before you start home shopping? Meighan Wise, a trusted advisor from Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Indiana Realty, shares how to find the trusted advisor that is best fit for you.=
First, you want to make sure than an agent is looking out for your best interest. “You want to make sure your realtor can give you high quality, constant communication so you feel like you are part of the process and feel like you are involved every step of the way. It is important you understand what is going on,” Wise said.
If you are selling your home, Wise recommends understanding if the advisor has a specific marketing plan and what that plan looks like. “I think as a seller, you want to ask who my buyer is and how are you going to reach them?” Wise said.
If you are a homebuyer, it is very important to find out if a realtor has experience selling in the desired area that you are looking at and if the home is accessible. “Homes right now are selling within days, if not hours. You want to make sure that your potential realtor can get you in the home, show you the home and get you the information that you need. We are seeing the highest and multiple offers on pretty much every house, so having a realtor who can write you the best offer is ideal,” Wise said.
If you choose to work with family or a friend that’s a realtor, Wise recommends keeping in mind, business first, and friends second. “I would definitely work with friends or family but only if you feel like they are competent because this is one of the largest financial decisions you will make in your life and you want to make sure that person is 100% capable in working for you,” Wise said.
