    Z. Mae Jimison was the first Black woman to serve as a judge in Marion County and the first nominated to run for Mayor of Indianapolis. Jimison’s run for mayor in 1995 allowed others to see the possibility of a person of color being in charge of City-County.     David Baker was a performer, teacher, composer, and band leader.  Baker founded and lead Indiana University Music Jazz Program for 50 years changing the way jazz is taught all over the world!     Marshall “Major” Taylor was born November 26, 1878 in Indianapolis.  He started his bicycling career when he was just a teenager, becoming a professional racer at the age of 18. Taylor was the first African American to win the World Championship in cycling. He also broke seven world records for speed!     Sarah Breedlove, better known as Madame C.J. Walker, gained national fame as an African-American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and political activist. Walker moved her manufacturing operation to Indianapolis in 1910 and stay here until she passed in 1919.
