  • Governor declares flooding emergency for 11 counties

    INDIANAPOLIS–Widespread flooding has prompted Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb to issue a disaster emergency for 11 counties in Indiana. On Saturday the governor signed an executive order to include Carroll,  Dearborn,  Elkhart,  Lake, Marshall, Perry,  St. Joseph, Starke,  Switzerland and White Counties. Heavy rainfall has caused widespread flooding and infrastructure damage.     INDIANAPOLIS—Metro Police are investigating a fatal accident on the east side Saturday evening. Shortly before 7 p.m., police and medics were called to the 2500 block of  North Shadeland Avenue on a report of a pedestrian struck.     MARION, Ind. –Marion Fire investigators say a teen intentionally set a fire that destroyed his family’s mobile home. Marion fire units were called to the 1500 block of Miller Avenue around 5:45 p.m., Saturday. As firefighters arrived, they found a mobile home fully engulfed in flames.   • Kayakers find body in river near Shelbyville

    Update (Dec. 4, 2017)– Officials identified the body as 38-year-old Christopher Young. Original story: SHELBYVILLE, Ind.–Kayakers on the Big Blue River notified the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department of a grim discovery Sunday afternoon. The kayakers were navigating the Big Blue River approximately four miles west of Shelbyville when they came across a human body in the water and called 911. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and Shelby County Coroner are investigating and working to establish identity.
