  • Kayakers find body in river near Shelbyville

    Update (Dec. 4, 2017)– Officials identified the body as 38-year-old Christopher Young. Original story: SHELBYVILLE, Ind.–Kayakers on the Big Blue River notified the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department of a grim discovery Sunday afternoon. The kayakers were navigating the Big Blue River approximately four miles west of Shelbyville when they came across a human body in the water and called 911. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and Shelby County Coroner are investigating and working to establish identity.

  • IMPD Police car and mail delivery truck collide

    INDIANAPOLIS–An IMPD police car and U.S. Postal  delivery truck collided at an northeast side intersection Saturday evening. The mail delivery driver suffered a broken arm and was taken to Methodist Hospital. The police officer was shaken up, but otherwise not injured.   • Northbound Interstate 69 lanes closed near Fishers following crash

    UPDATE:  All lanes have opened back up to traffic. FISHERS, Ind. — A vehicle crash on Interstate 69 closed all northbound lanes near State Road 37 and 116th Street. Fishers Police report there were minor injuries in the accident. Traffic was diverted onto the SR 37 ramp while the clean up and investigation was completed. Motorists are urged to seek alternate routes as they travel near the 205 mile marker of I-69.

    INDIANAPOLIS—Metro Police are investigating the robbery and stabbing of a homeless man on the city’s near west side Saturday evening. Around 8:15 p.m. police were called to West Washington Street near White River Parkway. Police say the man, later identified as 45-year-old Christopher Pittman, was standing along the bridge at that location. Detectives say they would like to speak with 18-year-old Devante Gilbert of Indianapolis.     INDIANAPOLIS—Metro Police are investigating a deadly shooting on the city’s south side, Saturday evening. Shortly before 8:30 p.m., emergency crews were called to the 2400 block of Dawson Street on a report of a person shot. Police found a male in his 20s, later identified as Christopher Bowman, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was declared deceased at the scene.     PLAINFIELD, Ind.—An investigation is underway as authorities look into what caused a forklift-related death at the Plainfield Amazon facility Sunday afternoon. Plainfield fire and police officers were called to the Amazon Fulfillment Center at 800 Perry Road around 2:45 p.m. On Monday, an autopsy was performed on the victim, 59-year-old Phillip L.   • Semi fire snarls interstate traffic on south side

    INDIANAPOLIS—Fire crews responded to a semi fire near a busy interstate interchange on the city’s south side Saturday evening. Shortly before 6 p.m. a semi traveling southbound on Interstate 65, near 465, caught fire. The blaze was confined to the trailer area.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.   • Couple escapes fire thanks to alert neighbors

    INDIANAPOLIS—Neighbors alerted a couple the garage to their south side home was on fire Saturday afternoon. The neighbors also called 911 to report heaving smoke coming from the garage windows. Shortly after 2:30 p.m., fire crews were called to the 800 block of Cragmont Drive. The residents, both in their 60’s, were able to get out of their home safely along with their dogs.
