Larry Hawley

larryI am from: Rolling Meadows, IL.

Where I went to school: University of Illinois

Where I have been: WICD-TV in Champaign as a Sports Reporter/Anchor/Photographer, News Reporter/Photographer and Chief Photographer. WVTV-TV in Milwaukee as a News and Sports Reporter/Photographer. WLOS-TV in Asheville, North Carolina as a Sports Reporter/Anchor/Photographer. Here at Fox 59 since Nov. 2007.

Where am I going: We shall see……

Why am I bald: I have a condition called Alopecia Areata, which causes hair loss in spots. Mine isn’t as serious as others but after dealing with it for ten years I decided what was left of my hair off.

If I had to describe my style of reporting it would be: “A try at art, a dash of insanity, and when you catch your breath-hope something sticks.”

My introduction song would be: Either “Going The Distance” from the Rocky Soundtrack or “Son of Flynn” by Daft Punk.

My celebration song is: “Jump in the Line” by Harry Belafonte

Most memorable Indianapolis moment: 2010 Butler National Championship Game. Incredible atmosphere and thrilling finish. Knew from minute one we were watching history.

Most interesting story to cover: Ball State swimmer Katie Jasmon’s fight with Myasthenia Gravis. Incredible what she went through to keep swimming.

Most difficult story to cover: Dan Wheldon’s death. Never forget the Wink and A Smile he gave me at the DW12 test two weeks before his fatal accident in Las Vegas.

If I’m hungry I eat: Whatever (Wish I could be more specific)

If I’m thirsty I drink: Gatorade. Lots and lots of Gatorade. Think Forrest Gump and Dr. Peppers.

My favorite quote: “A single mom who’s working two jobs, and still finds time to take her son to soccer practice, that’s a miracle. A teenager who says “no” to drugs and “yes” to an education, that’s a miracle. People want me to do everything for them. What they don’t realize is *they* have the power. You want to see a miracle, son? Be the miracle.” Morgan Freeman-Bruce Almighty

Greatest start to a web story never used: Move over Milan, Hoosierland has a new version of the Cinderella story. (Butler 2010 National Title Game, had Hayward’s shot gone in)

Am I Professor Larry: No. But I’m told he’ll be back from Sabbatical in January of 2013. Stay tuned.

In “Larry vs Larry”, which one do you like better: Neither
