A Columbus man has been arrested following the death of a 19-month-old boy.

Thomas W. Gorski, 30, faces a preliminary charge of neglect of a dependent resulting in death. Columbus police arrested him Wednesday morning.

Police began investigating after the boy, Evan McCue, died Sunday night at Columbus Regional Hospital. His mother, 21-year-old Rachel McCue, called 911 after finding her son unresponsive. A preliminary autopsy showed the boy died from a head injury.

Police said Gorski isn’t the boy’s father, although the child and his mother lived at Gorski’s home.

Detectives have interviewed more than 25 people in connection with the case and obtained 12 search warrants as part of the investigation. Officers said the investigation was ongoing and couldn’t provide additional details about the boy’s death.

“We still have a lot of work to do on this, but we felt there was enough evidence and information at this point that we had probable cause to make this arrest,” said Lt. Matt Myers of the Columbus Police Department.

Formal charges against Gorski are pending. He’s being held at the Bartholomew County Jail.
