Brian Mahern, the vice president of the City-County Council, will not seek the position next year.

Mahern told Fox59 News he will not seek another year in the post, citing disagreements with President Maggie Lewis on issues such as economic development and Lewis’ support for $10 million deal to help offset the Indiana Pacers’ operating costs.

He stated he still supports Lewis as president but that they share “principled, philosophical differences.”

Mahern notified Lewis and Majority Leader Vernon Brown of his decision Thursday.

Mahern was elected to his first term on the Council in November 2007 and re-elected in 2011.
