A Madison County man learned his punishment for a drag racing crash that killed a 17-year-old passenger.

Paul Coy was sentenced to eight years in prison. Investigators said he was racing another car when the vehicle went off the road and hit a tree along Madison County Road 100 West in March. Darian Hurn, 17, died from his injuries. Coy and two female passengers were hurt.

A jury found Coy guilty of reckless homicide and two counts of criminal recklessness on Dec. 10.

According to the Herald Bulletin, Coy said he will go to schools to speak about the dangers of racing on public roads during his sentencing hearing.
