The Marion County Coroner’s Office released the identity of the person struck and killed in Fountain Square Tuesday night.

According to Marion County Chief Deputy Coroner Alfarena Ballew, Brian Benson, 22, died.

On Tuesday, Metro Police said 20-year-old Joseph Anthony Scott Crandall was driving a red van when he turned onto South Prospect Street from Shelby Street.

Crandall told investigators he somehow jumped the curb on the left hand side and drove onto the sidewalk. Police said that’s when he struck Benson and 35-year-old Aaron Schaler, who were walking on that sidewalk.

Medics transported Schaler to Wishard Hospital in stable condition. His current condition is not known.
