Multiple people jump in to rescue mom, child after car lands in lake

Multiple bystanders jumped into a lake to rescue a mother and her young child in Fishers Thursday.

It happened at 116th Street and Hoosier Road in just before 12:30 p.m.

Police said multiple witnesses jumped in and rescued the pair before the SUV sank 60-80 feet.

One rescuer left the scene on their own while the others were taken to area hospitals. The car’s two occupants were also taken to an area hospital to be checked out.

Divers were able to recover the vehicle around 2 p.m.

The driver said she lost control of the car after hitting a patch of black ice.
