The Butler Bulldogs may have joined a new conference, but the results in the beginning are still the same.
No. 14 Butler (13-2, 1-0 Atlantic 10) defeated Saint Joseph’s on the road Wednesday night, collecting a 72-66 in their Atlantic 10 debut. Rotnei Clarke led the way with six three-pointers and 28 points, while Senior Andrew Smith finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds in front of a rowdy Saint Joseph’s crowd.
“New kids on the block,” coach Brad Stevens said. “It probably doesn’t help that we’re ranked, whatever that means. But it does add to the environment you play in.”
Butler’s defense played a major role in the victory, not allowing a single field-goal during a nine minute stretch in the second half. The victory was the Bulldogs tenth win in a row, who travel to Dayton next on Saturday.
