A new highway expansion could make your commute a little easier.

The Indiana Department of Transportation is moving forward with plans for new exits along US 31 in Hamilton County. The plan is to create three new exits between 146th and 169th Streets.

INDOT is putting almost $60 million toward this project, which will upgrade or bypass congested sections of US 31. When finished, the upgrades should cut off a half hour of travel time between Indianapolis and South Bend.

As soon as the weather permits, road crews will begin working on the new ramps, interchanges and exits.

State officials are pushing to get the project done by 2015.
