LAPEL – Police believe they have their man—but they need some help to close the case following a string of car break-ins in Madison County.

Officers from the Lapel Police Department arrested Joshua Wilcoxon, 18, Indianapolis, Tuesday morning on charges of theft. Police said he broke into several cars. He was also arrested on a charge of public intoxication.

Police received a call Tuesday night about a suspicious person in the 1500 block of Main Street. After encountering Wilcoxon, police said he had missing items from one of the burglarized vehicles in his possession.

Detectives believe Wilcoxon broke into several cars, but victims haven’t stepped forward or filed reports about any missing items or damage to their vehicles.

Lapel police said residents should check their vehicles to see if anything is missing. They said people who live in or near the Meadowview Apartments should be especially vigilant. Police didn’t say exactly what they found, only releasing that the stolen property in Wilcoxon’s possession came from more than one or two cars.

Anyone with information should call the Lapel Police Department at (765) 534-4600 or  (765) 642-0221.
