A Fortville officer who was injured in an ambush-style attack resumed his full duties Tuesday.

Officer Matt Fox is back patrolling the streets following the July 2012 incident.

Dash cam video captured the scene. Convicted felon James Lockhart jumped out of his vehicle following a brief chase and began firing at Fox.

Fox was hit several times in the face, arm and chest. His bulletproof vest is credited with saving his life.

Fox spent time in a rehab facility recovering. He returned to duty back in October but had not been cleared to return to patrol work.

Officers fatally shot Lockhart the night of the incident.
