Man nicknamed ‘Ray Bandit’ arrested after string of bank robberies

A man nicknamed the “Ray Bandit” was arrested in Illinois in connection with the robbery of 17 banks, including two in Indiana.

Jeremy Evans, of Carol Stream, Ill., was arrested last week in connection with bank robberies in Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, California and Virginia.

Evans was nicknamed the “Ray Bandit” for wearing Ray Ban-type sunglasses during the robberies.  He was captured after a recent bank robbery in in Elgin, Ill, said the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Evans is accused of robbing the TCF Bank in Munster, Ind. on Aug. 8, 2012 and the Fifth Third Bank in Hammond, Ind. just 10 minutes later.

He is being held without bond and is awaiting formal charges.
