Carmel Police have successful stopped a murder for hire plot, officials announced Wednesday.

Stephen Perry is behind bars after police said he tried to convince a co-worker to find a hit man to kill his estranged wife.  Instead, that co-worker recorded the conversations he had with Perry.

According to court documents, Perry’s co-worker asked, “So what is knocking her out worth?”

Perry said “It’s gonna get me my money, without the divorce” and that he “just want[s] this to be over and done with… she’s dead and I’m free.”

That co-worker took the recording to Perry’s wife who then turned it over to police..

Perry is now charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
