REDKEY – The 2-year-old boy stood, shivering in the cold, barely moving his feet. Even more alarming, he was alone at the side of a busy road.
Now, detectives with the Redkey Police Department are trying to figure out why.
A man who happened to drive by saw the 2-year-old boy in pajamas standing next to Indiana 67 near Sycamore Street on Saturday morning. The driver—Alden Glessner—couldn’t believe what he saw.
“The whole time I saw him he was just standing in one spot. (He was) just kinda shuffling his feet a little bit, but wasn’t really moving,” Glessner recalled.
Glessner didn’t see anyone watching him.
“He was shivering. I mean, his lips were just quivering nonstop. He was cold to the touch. His diaper was…you could tell he had it on all night long and it was cold through his pajamas,” Glesser said.
Detectives would not release many details about their investigation. At this time, no one has been charged. It is unclear if anyone will be charged.
Fox59 confirmed the boy lives across the street from where he was found. The people who live inside said they were family members, but wouldn’t speak on camera.
One person inside said the city was making a big deal about the situation. He said there were a lot of people inside the home when it happened.
Another person claimed it was an accident, saying that the front door has a latch at the top that may not have been properly secured.
Meanwhile, Glessner said he wants to make sure the little boy is okay. He said he would be willing to foster the child.
“I mean, I only was with the little boy 10 or 15 minutes and yet I feel an attachment somewhat to him and a responsibility. My son (does) as well,” he said. “He’s got his little boy. Somebody needs to be there for him and somebody ain’t right now.”
