REDKEY – The 2-year-old boy stood, shivering in the cold, barely moving his feet. Even more alarming, he was alone at the side of a busy road.

Now, detectives with the Redkey Police Department are trying to figure out why.

A man who happened to drive by saw the 2-year-old boy in pajamas standing next to Indiana 67 near Sycamore Street on Saturday morning. The driver—Alden Glessner—couldn’t believe what he saw.

“The whole time I saw him he was just standing in one spot. (He was) just kinda shuffling his feet a little bit, but wasn’t really moving,” Glessner recalled.

Glessner didn’t see anyone watching him.

“He was shivering. I mean, his lips were just quivering nonstop. He was cold to the touch. His diaper was…you could tell he had it on all night long and it was cold through his pajamas,” Glesser said.

Detectives would not release many details about their investigation. At this time, no one has been charged. It is unclear if anyone will be charged.

Fox59 confirmed the boy lives across the street from where he was found. The people who live inside said they were family members, but wouldn’t speak on camera.

One person inside said the city was making a big deal about the situation. He said there were a lot of people inside the home when it happened.

Another person claimed it was an accident, saying that the front door has a latch at the top that may not have been properly secured.

Meanwhile, Glessner said he wants to make sure the little boy is okay. He said he would be willing to foster the child.

“I mean, I only was with the little boy 10 or 15 minutes and yet I feel an attachment somewhat to him and a responsibility. My son (does) as well,” he said. “He’s got his little boy. Somebody needs to be there for him and somebody ain’t right now.”

where was everyone at that no one checked up n him during the night or early morning hours? How in the world did he even get outside without anyone knowing that he went outside?

  • Bev

I too have to wonder what in the world were they doing, that no one noticed him go out the door, or bothered to check to see were he was?

  • Cassie

I have a 3 year old and a 16 month old. There is never a point when either myself or their father do not know where they are. This is just neglect, imo.

It's a good thing he didn't go out further or that no one lost control of their vehicle at that spot as then he might have been killed.
I can't believe he was outside like that and no one knew that he had opened the door and went out,Especially as cold as it was on Saturday morning..
Come on people, that is one of my grandchildrren and you are supposed to be protecting him.
    Where were you?

There saying there might not be any charges ? I call that child neglect and child abuse. Come on something needs to be done or should I say something should be done . I'm outraged !

  • Chastity

I know when my kids was that little I watched them 24 / 7 . There children they are curious they wander . Hello . Where is cps when there actually needed? !

If there were a lot of people inside the home when it happened, then there is no excuse why this baby was outside by himself except that he was not being supervised properly. And then to have diaper on that had been on him all night ? Come on now !!!!!! I have a 2 year old myself and there is no reason why that baby's diaper could not been changed yet or anything …. I call this POOR PARENTING !!!!

these parents need to be locked out by a highway with no bathroom but there pants all night on one of the coldest nights so they know how it feels wtf is wrong with people to the mom if u can’t take care of ur kids keep ur legs closed and to the dad if u can’t take care of a kid then don’t have sex or where a comdom it’s easy people grow up or don’t reproduce

  • trula

he would have tried toget back in if he was allowed too,no one is gonna stand out in the cold if they knew they could go back in. i thimmk it is child neglect.

    • Jodee

I agree its neglect. NEVER was there a second that I didn't know where my babies were and what they were doing, especially at 2 yrs old! But..the fact he was only 2, he may not have been able to get back in..if nobody was paying attention, which..obviously they weren't.

  • dmiller

If nothing else, charge them with neglect for the diaper. That in itself is very telling of how they care for him on a daily basis. I grew up on Sycamore street. Not only does it T out to a major highway, but the bridge is right there. And the drop off.

Maybe the parents was still sleeping. Maybe their great parents but forgot to lock the door. Don't judge others when you don't even no what happened. Thank God for the man who stopped to help him. I'm sure his parents are very thankful.

    • ryan

yeah thank god for that guy but if there were alot of people there they were probably to busy with their party to take care of their kid hard not to judge most people keep an eye on their kids and add things so they can’t get doors open and protect thier kids that is ur job as a parrent at least that’s what i thought it was

      • drs

You have the only respectable comment on here. People are so quick to judge someone else when they only have a small clue of what actually took place that night. I'm not saying that it don't need to be investigated but really people accidents happen and it could have happen to any one of you who have childern and have ever went to bed at night! I have 5 kids and by all means you can not prevent life from happening.

@nichole, some investigations take more than a days time. Just because no charges have been filed, doesn't mean they won't be. Yes, a crime has been committed, but the prosecution will have to determine WHO to charge. Obviously the parents would be the first looked at, but how many others were in the house and neglected the child's needs as well. This is a very sad case, and I know the investigators/detectives will be working very hard on this case to bring whoever is deemed responsible to justice.

What I want to know is if there were so many people in that house and the time this happened, then how is it no one kept an eye on the little boy, heard him open the door, or even go outside? You would think they would be more responsible than that if there were so many people around

  • Jessica

I can't believe parents like this use an excuse for why they loose their children. It is neglect if your child is out like that. I'm so thankful that the little boy was found safe, and will be ok. The parents or family where he is saying should have to face some type of consequence for this. I have a child who is autistic and opens doors. As her parents we added extra locks, and make sure that as her parents we double check that they are locked at night. We also added a alarm that goes off if open. It is our responsibility as parents to protect our children. If they can't as parents then someone else will take on that role.

  • emily

OMG. this child needs to be in protective custody with DCS until they can foster him out or let someone adopt him with common sense. this child could have been KILLED by a car, froze to death in minutes, he could have been abducted. countless things could have killed this baby!!! And yes he is neglected because he was in a soaking diaper i bet they never changed him that morning. Sorry but ….

  • emily

that is horrid i have two kids and another ont he way there is no way my children could stand to sit in urine or feces its NOT comfortable and its sad because all the peopel in the house.. but NO one changed this child… no one was watching the child LEAVE out the door. so of COURSE THIS IS A BIG DEAL!!! the person who said that needs slapped. when my 1st child learned how to open doors and would try to go outside i instantly that day went out and bought locks and installed them at the tops of the doors. baby proofed anything that could hurt him and he was never out of my sight. so there MIGHT not be any charges filled??! what.!! what if that kid died !!!!!!! i mean if you leave a child in a conditon that a WHAT IF could happen like them dying.. you need to be punished and your child needs to be removed because you are a flaming idiot. Please update us with better news for this baby. I hope he is safe. god love his little "pea pickin heart" as my gammy would say LOL .

  • Tina

This is WRONG on so many levels!!! I sure hope Jay Co CPS is investigating these parents. This is pure neglect. This could have been a horrible tragedy.

  • Lynn

Amen!!!!!! I am so disgusted. When are the authorities going to open their eyes to. The children that are being abused and neglected? Why do they have to wait until one is harmed or dies before they even start. To investigate.?

  • unowutopinionsrlike

just so sad right now for all the little ones in terrible situations by no fault of their own. It breaks my heart to think of all the babies, right this minute, who are being hurt by those who are supposed to care for and love them. frustrating and sickening 😦

  • Jack

Maybe Everyone that was in the house should go to Jail for neglect, since according to their own admission they were a lot of people there, and take the child into protective custody.

  • jack

I also thank God that Mr. Glessner was there and being observant. If it wouldn't have been for him that Baby might have DIED.

  • Sherry Stirling

Yes we are all sinners that is true. I don’t think anyone is casting stones, I do think that this is a case of child neglect. If you have a child that is known to go out by themselves then you make sure that they can’t.IE. make sure the door has a lock that the child cannot operate or reach. AND make sure it is locked when you go to bed. Make your child the most important thing in your life!

  • Dawn

The city is making a "Big Deal" out of this……..REALLY? How dare you say that. Who wouldnt make a big deal out of this? C'mon, this is just a baby! This is sickening!!!!

  • Jane Doe

I don't understand how the words came out of the persons mouth about that baby, making a big deal? lots of people in the house? I bet it would have been a "big deal" if the outcome would have been different and obviously God was watching out for that little man and for that you should be very grateful instead of making stupid comments! You do realize the temp was freezing outside correct ?

  • prettylady

i have seen that woman at the end of the video before. where were the adults at. they didnt here the door open? i know i would have if i had kids in the house. and i know i wouldnt have had put the child back in that house after that happened.

  • mike

I can't imagine not being able to find my child. What bothers me is that I doubt a two year old 'escaping' the huose is gonna close the door behind him. If there were so many people in the house why did no one think beyoond the end of their nose as to why the door was open? Baffling and very sad for sure. Thank God and God bless Mr.Glessner for being the man that he is.

  • Paris Siler

That just breaks my heart!…. the poor 2 YEAR OLD baby has no reason to be outside in the cold like that…. i would LOVE to see the man that found him get custody of that baby!

  • notjudging

Maybe the child slipped out very early in the morning, then couldn't figure out how to get back in,and it's the first time that anything like this has ever happened. (Really, how many of you have locks all over your doors on the off chance that your child might go outside if they've never done it before?) Maybe his diaper was full and that's why he woke up, trying to find someone to change it and got confused. Maybe ALL those people in the house thought the OTHER person was taking care of him. Yes, a child's life was at stake due to the cold and the area, but people make mistakes and as a community it's our job to help them and educate them, not judge and persecute them. Yes, let's get this little guy some help and then let's get his parents some help as well.

Hi there! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any trouble with hackers? My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing several weeks of hard work due to no backup. Do you have any methods to stop hackers?
