INDIANAPOLIS — A local group, saddened by the loss of two Indianapolis medics, plans to petition the City County Council to rename streets in their honor.

The Indy Fire Rescue House drafted a proposal and petition requesting the City of Indianapolis to change the names of two downtown streets.

If granted, the proposal would rename North Senate Avenue between 11th Street and West North Street to Medley Street.

West St. Clair Street between North West Street and North Meridian Street would be renamed McCormick Street.

The proposal and petition will be submitted to the Indianapolis City-County Council Friday, February 22nd, 2013, and if approved, will be heard before the March 25th meeting.

The public is encouraged to contact their Councilor Friday in support of this proposal.

I agree as well. That area has several businesses, & it may prove confusing to clients as well. This is also a historic area, so it may not be appropriate. Possibly another area could work, or erecting a memorial or planting a tree at the location of the accident would be fitting.

This is a very tragic incident, my heart goes out to the victims' families.

So you rename two streets for these guys. Are you going to rename streets for all of the fallen fire fighters and police? Seems only fair to me……..

The City has an ordinance which permits a street to be named as a "memorial way" without officially renaming the street. I would hope this is what will be done.
