Hoosier lawmakers are working together to fight hunger across the state.

Monday was Hunger Awareness Day at the Indiana Statehouse.  Many leaders, including Senate President David Long and House Leader Scott Pelath, hosted a food drive.

Many leaders also recently created a commercial with Feeding Indiana’s Hungry. The goal is to raise more awareness about the one in six Hoosiers who struggle with hunger every day.

“There’s so many that have so little and we just want to bring that attention to Hoosiers and encourage them to participate in supporting these many food banks all over that are trying to address this critical issue,” said House Speaker Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis.

Last year, food pantries distributed more than 66 million pounds of food to hungry Hoosiers.
