Carmel Arts District member arrested in prostitution sting

An important member of the Carmel Arts District has been caught in a prostitution sting.

Evan Lurie, 47, was arrested last week during an undercover operation in Indianapolis.

According to the police report, Lurie set up a meeting for a half-hour session with a woman through an online advertisement. When he met the woman at an area hotel, she revealed that she was an undercover police officer.

Lurie was also charged with possession of paraphernalia. Lurie, who has an art gallery in downtown Carmel, has played an important role in the city’s development over the years.

Lurie charged the city of Carmel $100 an hour as an arts consultant. Lurie opened his gallery in downtown Carmel in 2007.
