A retired IMPD officer who returned to Indianapolis to spend time with his ailing wife has now passed away. Frank Wefler died on Monday.

He and his wife, Carol, had retired in Las Vegas when she was diagnosed with cancer. She came back to Indy for treatment but Wefler was stuck in Vegas after suffering a series of strokes and heart attacks.

Thousands of dollars were raised by local groups and fox 59 viewers to get Wefler a medical flight back. Wefler’s wife passed away in December.

A viewing for Frank will be held Friday afternoon at singleton community mortuary on Madison Avenue. He will be laid to rest on Saturday.

Memorial gifts can be made to Grace on Wings, P.O. Box 455, Plainfield, IN 46168.
