Severe weather season and tornadoes are just around the corner and the American Red Cross is now offering a free app to help you prepare.

Even if the app is closed or the power is out it sends out the familiar high-pitched tornado warning alert siren.

When the warning has been canceled, it will give you an all clear.

If there is a major tornado, the app will provide maps, and locations of open Red Cross shelters. It even has a tool kit with a flashlight or strobe light for if the power goes out.

You can download it from the iTunes or Google Play app stores.
