Indianapolis police are trying to determine what caused a person to kill a man in front of his three children.
IMPD responded to the Lynhurst Park Apartments at 3 p.m. on Wednesday after a roommate found 28-year-old David McMiller dead inside his apartment.
“It’s just unbelievable that somebody would do something like this to my brother,” said Satinner Suggs.
Suggs said McMiller was a loving brother, but an even better father.
“He was a great, awesome father,” Suggs said. “He had custody of his boys, he took very good care of his kids. Not only that, he would watch my son, my sister’s kids, he was just a great, awesome person.”
“We believe at this point there was a violent struggle, most likely inside that apartment,” said IMPD public information officer Kendale Adams.
Detectives didn’t find any signs of forced entry. They are still trying to determine if McMiller died from a gunshot or other injuries sustained during the apparent struggle.
McMIller’s roommate called 911, but told police he came home after the struggle. Detectives believe the children were the only witnesses, meaning special investigators will try to interview them. Suggs said it will be a difficult task because the oldest is just four years old.
“It certainly is beyond human conscience that someone could do this with children present,” Adams said. “So certainly it tugged at our detectives and our detectives are very determined to find out who committed this crime.”
“He didn’t even have any enemies,” Suggs said. “That’s why we don’t really understand who would really do this, you know? Who would do this to my brother?”
