I-465 lanes restricted after semi crashes into creek

INDIANAPOLIS — Emergency crews restricted lanes of I-465 following a two-vehicle accident near US 31 on the south side.

First responders responded to the scene around 11 p.m. Tuesday night on reports that a semi crashed into the median creek just west of US 31.

When they arrived, a semi could be seen on its side in the creek.

According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, a mother and her two small children were driving west on I-465 when they came into contact with the semi.

IFD said the semi lost control, hit a guard rail, and crashed into the creek.

Inside the semi, a 17-year-old, his mother, and an adult male. The 17-year-old was not seriously injured and escaped from the semi cab on his own. Firefighters extricated his mother and the adult male, transporting them to IU Health Methodist Hospital with unknown injuries.

The van occupants were not treated for any injuries.

INDOT estimates two lanes of eastbound I-465 at at US 31 on the south side could be restricted until 4 a.m.
