IUPUI alert puts spotlight on campus notifications

After Tuesday’s alert at IUPUI, Fox 59 looked at how schools handle such situations.

Indiana University uses a system called IU Notify. Students and staff automatically get email alerts. They can also sign up for text alerts that go right to their phones. Sign up for IU’s alerts here (log in with your personal information).

Butler University’s Instant Alert Plus system provides emergency information via email, text messages and phone calls. Subscribe to Butler’s notifications (go to “Self Service,” click on “Student Center,” go to “Instant Alert Plus” in the personal information section).

Purdue uses something called Purdue Alert. Anyone with a Purdue.edu email address receives emergency information. Students and staff can also sign up for text messages that go straight to their cell phones. Sign up for Purdue’s alerts here (click on “Change My Emergency Contact Number,” then log in with your Purdue account).

Ball State delivers emergency notifications to its website, email subscribers, campus voicemail and text messages simultaneously. You can sign up for BSU’s system here (log in with your user name and password).
