Crews tearing down the homes hit by a plane in South Bend last week found a pleasant surprise Monday.

One family was particularly worried as their cat had been missing since the accident. But during demolition this weekend, the cat jumped right out of the wreckage!

Apparently, he had been stuck between two walls but the demolition opened up an escape route for

“It jumped out and jumped down the corner and I didn’t want the wrecking ball to hit it so I just stopped immediately to try to get down there and try to get it. So I got out and gave it to the next door neighbor,” said Harvey Jackson.

That neighbor rushed the cat to a veterinarian who says the little guy suffered some damage to a lung and leg, but is expected to survive.
