Detectives have arrested a teenager and are looking for a second one, suspected of robbing a teacher after school.
IMPD arrested a 15-year-old boy on Saturday and are looking for another boy around the same age. Sgt. Brent Hendricks said the teenager admitted he was involved in the armed robbery.
“It’s somewhat a crime of opportunity that they see the one car there, they think (they’ll) wait around for a little while. But, it’s also a little bit of a planned thing because (they think) okay we’ve targeted now this person,” Sgt. Hendricks said.
On Wed. March 20, surveillance video captured two teenagers outside of Francis Scott Key School. Anthony Delarosa is a teacher at the school. He left school that day at 6:40 p.m. One teenager was behind a dumpster. He came out, pointing a semi-automatic pistol at Delarosa. The second teenager walked toward Delarosa from the woods. It is unclear if the 15-year-old teenager, who was arrested, was holding the pistol or not.
The teenagers are accused of stealing Delarosa’s keys, wallet, cell phone and car.
“The suspect, who we arrested, had told me in the interview that he and his accomplice had made a plan to split the proceeds of the robbery and I guess as luck would have it, when they went to open the wallet of the victim, he told me that the wallet contained $2. So, I guess they got a dollar each,” Sgt. Hendricks said.
Two days after Delarosa’s car was stolen, it was set on fire. It was found near the 4000 block of Essex Court, which is near the east side of town.
Roger George saw the car being removed from the neighborhood. He said he did not see it dropped off nor set on fire.
“There was nothing inside. There was, I mean, like I said the tires were completely burned off. There was no inside at all. It was just basically shelled out and on the outside you could see where the paint was all peeling out. It was pretty bad,” George said.
Sgt. Hendricks said there is a separate arson investigation.
The 15-year-old, who was arrested, has been charged with robbery, carjacking and criminal confinement. If you have any information on the second suspect, call IMPD. You can call (317) 327-3486.
“We got a description and a nickname of Reece. He is supposed to be about 15, 16 years old. (He is about) 5’7 to 5’8, medium brown skin. He is supposed to have a hairstyle, which I’ve been told is supposed to be a fauxhawk,” Sgt. Hendricks said.
Detectives don’t believe the teenagers knew the victim.
