INDOT truck catches fire after hitting loose mattress on highway

UPDATE (1:30 p.m.): All lanes have reopened.

UPDATE (1:10 p.m.): Authorities said the INDOT truck struck a mattress that was loose on the highway, which ruptured a compressed gas line on the truck prompting the fire.  Two other vehicles who were watching the incident collided near the accident.  No injuries were reported.

UPDATE (12:40 p.m.): Only one lane of I-465 SB and the ramp near the Sam Jones Expressway are closed.

ORIGINAL POST (11:30 a.m.): All lanes of southbound Interstate 465 are closed near Sam Jones Expressway after an INDOT dump truck caught fire Monday morning.

Emergency crews responded to the incident on the city’s southwest side at approximately 11:20 a.m.

Indiana State Police said the truck is reported to be a natural gas vehicle.

Seek alternate routes as you travel southbound on I-465 near mile 10.7.
