For the first time, recruits joining the Indianapolis Fire Department will be taking Spanish lessons.

Crews will learn basic conversational Spanish when they begin training in May.

It will be the first recruit class for the IFD since 2008.

They said they want firefighters to be able to communicate better with everyone, especially during an emergency.
