LAWRENCE – Police seized large quantities of cocaine and cash during a multi-agency sting.

Detectives set up an undercover buy for approximately four ounces of cocaine in the 9000 block of Pendleton Pike in Lawrence. When the suspects arrived with the drugs, police took them into custody and then searched their car and a residence on East 49th Street.

The search turned up three kilos of cocaine and more than $76,000 in cash. Four vehicles were also forfeited as proceeds of illegal drug transactions. A kilo of cocaine has a street value of $35,000, investigators said.

Santiago Hernandez and Jose Alvarez have been charged with dealing in cocaine (class A felony). They will appear in Marion Superior Court 20 on Wednesday for an initial hearing. Federal charges are also being considered.

The operation included the Lawrence Police Department, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Carmel Police Department, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, DEA and others from the Metro Drug Task Force.
