AREA FARMERS by Brian Wilkes: Drought devastated so many Indiana farmers last year, at what looked to be a promising season – unseasonably warm temperatures last March and April afforded many farmers the chance to plant early.  This year it is the complete opposite.  The wet and cold Spring has slowed corn planting. Rainfall for April is now at 6.55″ or 239% the normal.   According the to the USDA only 1% of the corn in Indiana has been planted – down 42% from last year and off the average of 16%.
